A BEST bus crashed into a Mankhurd Metro pillar after the driver braked to avoid four pedestrians. A separate Goregaon East accident involving a Metro pillar left two people injured.

A Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus collided with a pillar of the Mankhurd Metro station in the early hours of Friday after the driver reportedly applied emergency brakes while trying to avoid four pedestrians who suddenly crossed the road.

The incident took place around 2.15 am on September 18 near Mankhurd Station Bridge, when the bus was travelling from Airoli Bus Station towards Pratiksha Nagar Depot.

According to the accident report, four pedestrians attempted to cross the road from the left side as the bus approached the bridge. The driver applied emergency brakes to avoid hitting them, following which the bus crashed into a pillar of the Mankhurd Metro station.

One passenger sustained injuries to his left wrist and thigh. After the incident, the passenger contacted a relative and later went to Sion Hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident, a BEST bus grazed a private car and subsequently collided with a Metro rail pillar near the Oberoi Mall signal in Goregaon East, Mumbai, on Monday evening, leaving two people injured.

The incident took place around 5 pm on September 14 when the BEST bus was plying towards Bhayander Station (East) from Dindoshi Depot on route number 705/36. According to the BEST accident report, the bus was taking a right turn beneath the flyover at the traffic signal opposite Oberoi Mall when it grazed the rear right side of a private car. The bus subsequently collided with a Mumbai Metro rail pillar.

Two people were injured in the accident. One of them was 58-year-old Rajendra Muralidhar Sonawane, a BEST employee from the engineering department at Dindoshi, who suffered a head injury and required three stitches.

The other injured person was identified as 57-year-old Mangesh Ramchandra Modlekar, a passenger who sustained injuries to his chin and head. He required one stitch on his chin and five on his head.

Following the incident, the accident inspector shifted both injured persons to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari East for treatment. Another accident special inspector was also deputed to assist in the matter.

A subsequent update issued by BEST at 10.45 pm stated that both injured persons had been discharged from Trauma Care Hospital, Jogeshwari East, after receiving treatment.

Based on the instructions of Sub-Inspector Rahul Dadas of Vanrai Police Station, the bus was towed by a BEST towing vehicle and parked in front of Vanrai Police Station.

A case was registered against the bus driver based on a complaint filed by the driver of the car.

The two incidents involving BEST buses and Metro infrastructure highlight separate road accidents in Mumbai in which buses collided with Metro pillars, with injuries reported in both cases and police and BEST authorities taking subsequent action.
